Virgil Michaels

Virgil L. Michaels, of Parkersburg, W.Va. died March 4, 2012 at Ohio Valley Health Care. He was one month shy of his 98th birthday.Virgil was born April 3, 1914 in Friendly, W.Va., the son of Elmer and Allie Michaels.He was married for 61 years to the late Glenda Ruth Heddelson Michaels, who preceded him in death December 1996. Mike, as he was affectionately known, was a salesman for Graham Packing Company, Morlang Packing Company, and was retired from Midland Grocery.He is survived by his son, Jack Michaels (Chris) of Muscatine, Iowa; daughters, Nancy Cross (Don) of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Judith Marshall (Wayne) of Colfax, North Carolina, and Elizabeth “Beth” Pfaff (Jim) also of Parkersburg, W.Va.; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marjorie Racer of Sistersville, W.Va.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Virgil Michaels; brother, Harry Michaels; and sisters, Irene, Edna, and Wilma. A celebration of his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday March 7, 2012 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with the Rev. W. Brent Sturm officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday March 6, 2012, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, PO Box 12110, Charleston, WV 25302.
