Virgil Nile Flinn

Virgil Nile Flinn, 81 of Washington, W.Va. went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus.He was born June 27, 1931 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Carl and Iva Gilbert Flinn. Virgil was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, class of 1950 and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer and had worked for Piedmont Airlines and US Airlines at the Wood County and Yeager Airports for more than 37 years. He was a member of the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department, since 1963, where he was fire chief for 19 years. Virgil presently was serving on the Wood County Airport Authority Board, the Wood County Emergency Services Board of Directors and was active in the planning of the Air Shows at the Wood County Airport. He was also a member of the Wood County Solid Waste Committee, the Wood County FIT Team, was a life member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion Post 15. He had previously attended the Christian Life Center and actively attended the Homeland Community Church. Virgil loved his family and going to the family farm where he enjoyed hunting and being in the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Mary Richards Flinn; five children, Vicky (Dan) Thomas of Parkersburg, W.Va., Steven (Shari) Flinn of Mineral Wells, W.Va., Jenny (Brady) Stephens of Parkersburg, W.Va., Joseph (Angie) Flinn of Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Timothy (Amy) Flinn of Parkersburg, W.Va.; grandchildren, Stephanie Thomas Asbury, Jason Thomas, Ambrosia Flinn McCabe, Alisha Flinn, Jadiah Flinn, Parker Stephens, Benjamin Brown, Brooke Flinn Keener, Breanna Flinn, Evan Flinn, and Landon Flinn; great-grandchildren, Allison Asbury, Camren McCabe, Grayson Keener, and Brent Asbury.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Angel Flinn.Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastors Brady Stephens, Brian Harrel, and Pasi Sikio officiating. Interment will follow at the Lubeck Cemetery with full military rites by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
