Violet Alberta Wood, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away August 30, 2011 at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. She was born August 10, 1923 in Gilmer County, W.Va. daughter of the late Waitman T. Wiley “Pete” and Lovie E. Springston Vannoy. She was a 1941 graduate of Parkersburg High School and was retired from Johns Mansville. Violet was a member of the Vienna Eastern Star, Amaranth of Parkersburg, and the White Shrine of Parkersburg. She was an avid booster of PHS and the Big Red Band. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. As a hobby Violet loved collecting snowmen novelty items.She is survived by her three sons, William D. Wood of Vienna, W.Va., Gary A. Wood (Kristine) of Charleston, W.Va., and Jerry L. Wood (Leslie) of Naples, Italy; two daughters, Sue Camhe (Jack) of Naples, FL, and Rose Wood of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one brother, Eldred Vannoy of Florida; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; her best friend, Ruth Bennett of Vienna, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale G. Wood on Dec. 17, 2007; and three brothers, Edward, Albert, and Forrest Vannoy. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Todd Hill, Pastor Paul Drake, Pastor David Carpenter, and Pastor Dr. Kurt Busick officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday noon to time of service at the funeral home.
