Vanora "Sam" Sams

Vanora Lynn “Sam” Sams, 58, of Parkersburg, passed away at her residence Monday, March 29, 2021. She was born May 5, 1962 in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Nova E. and Peggy L. Shockey Sams. Sam was a 1980 graduate of Parkersburg South High School and received her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University at Parkersburg. She retired from WVU-P, where she worked in Administration. Sam was an animal lover and enjoyed being with her pets. She is survived by one sister, Lisa Barnes of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Mark Sams of Georgia and Adam Sams of Abilene, Texas; three step-brothers, Brian, Alan, and Aaron Gibbs all of Parkersburg; nieces and nephews, Joshua Sams, Troy Sams, Jeremy Sams, Summer Fanning, and Amber Fraticelli; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her beloved dog, “Charli”. In addition to her parents, Sam was preceded in death by her fiancée, Shane Burke and brother-in-law, Fred Barnes. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Parkersburg. In compliance with CDC guidelines, face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
