Torrence R. Bell, of Walker, W.Va., passed away on his 98th birthday on Sept. 29, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. Torrence was allowed to remain in his own home till his last few hours of life with the loving care of his wife of 73 years, Gladnalene Lipscomb Bell. They were married Oct. 5, 1938.Torrence was born in Wirt County, a son of the late James Walker Bell and the late Lelia Ruble Bell Fought.Torrence worked at The Spot Restaurant, Karas Hot Dogs on Sixth Street and the Hamburger Inn. He was a skilled machinist at the Rigg and Reel until he started his own business, Bell Plumbing. After retirement, Torrence raised cattle and farmed.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, John Curtis Bell; four brothers, Harold, Jefferson, Louis “Luke” and Bakley; two half brothers, Donald and Merrit; and one son-in-law, Donald Boston.Torrence is a father of six children; sons, James (Faith) of Washington, W.Va., Rodney (Sharie) of Walker, Hobert (Betty) of Davisville and Ralph (Julie) of Walker; and daughters, Patty Boston of Walker and Donna Sweet (Butch) of Davisville; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at Grant Hill Cemetery in the Bell Family Section at Walker, W.Va., with Pastor Bud Corbin officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va.
