Ms. Thelma Leona Wharton, 104, of Parkersburg. passed from this life May 13, 2012 at Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility. She was born July 28, 1907 in Wood County, a daughter of the late Nathan Homer and Edna Ethel Johnson Wharton. Thelma was an honor graduate of Parkersburg High School in 1927. Her first job was with W.H. Smith Hardware. She retired from Traders Federal Savings & Loans as a bookkeeper. She was a life member of the First Baptist Church in Parkersburg since 1918 where she was a member of the Semper Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Nannie Alvis Circle. She served as Chaplain of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, was a member of the Eagles Activity Club and was a volunteer at Camden-Clark Hospital. Thelma is survived by her sister, Wanda Wharton Conley; her brother, Donald (Carolyn) Wharton all of Vienna; nephews, Thomas (Suzanne) Conley of Enka, NC, and James (Melanie) Conley of Vienna, Ron (Pat) Wharton of Rolesville, NC, David Martin of Parkersburg, and Terry Wharton of Fairfax, VA; and Niece, Jane (Bob) Peters of Medina, Ohio.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, Etsel, Willard, Harold, Homer Dale, and Ralph; a sister, Jewell L. Dreyer and her husband, Louis; a niece, Marilyn Conley; and nephews, Nathan, Bill and Wayne Wharton. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Pastor Rich McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
