Steven L. Mercer, 55, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away January 1, 2012 at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. He was born May 21, 1956, in Cumberland, Md., a son of the late Eunice Wilt Dennis and Frank Mercer.Steve attended the University of Charleston. He retired after 32 years of military service as a Sergeant First Class and was stationed in Korea and deployed to Iraq. He served three years in the U.S. Army and retired from the Army National Guard. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, NASCAR, and sports. He was a volunteer for Amedysis Hospice.He is survived by three daughters, Kelsi Mercer of Parkersburg, W.Va., Tiffany Wood of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Sarah Loscar of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one son, Stevie Neal of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Kathy Schreckengost of Parkersburg, W.Va.; his fiancé, Natalie Barnetteand her two children, Kyle and Kelli Barnette of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Stella Wood of Winston-Salem; one niece, Joni Schreckengost of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one nephew, Bobby Schreckengost of Farmville, Va.; two great-nieces, Kira Dowler and Ella Schreckengost; one great-nephew, Cale Schreckengost; his dog, Ty.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Cecil Dennis, who helped raise him; and one sister, Karen Mercer.Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2011 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Chaplain Mike Allen and Chaplain Bruce Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden with full military honors by the West Virginia National Guard.
