Sophia M. Smith, 95, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on June 19, 2013 at Ohio Valley Health Care.She was born November 3, 1917, in Minnora, W.Va., a daughter of Homer H. and Lula Wright Shawver.Sophia was a graduate of St. Mary's High School with the class of 1936. She was employed at the American Viscose Company, the Seventh Street IGA, was a cook for the Wood County school system and was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was active in her church and was a charter member of Broadway Nazarene Church.She is survived by two sons, David E. (Janet) Smith of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Paul W. (Linda)Smith of Washington, W.Va.; one sister, Mildred Eifler of Marietta, Ohio; two grandchildren, Terri (Jeff) Hall and Sherri (Chris) Sams; four great-grandchildren, Adam and Andrea Hall, Hunter (Tracey) Sams and Taylor Sams; one great-great-grandson, Brantley Sams; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Smith whom she married December 24, 1938; sisters, Irene George Caplinger, Edna Mullins, Audra Clem, Janette Byram, and Georgia Kaufman; and brothers, Homer Jr., Blaine and Robert Shawver.Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Broadway Church of the Nazarene, south Parkersburg with Harold Eaton and Linda Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.va. and one hour prior to the services at the church.Sophia was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who loved the Lord and her church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
