Everett B. “Sonny” Leasure Jr., 82, of Parkersburg passed away on January 13, 2024 at WVU Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born July 28, 1941 a son of the late Everett B. Sr. and Garnett L. Hornbeck-Leasure.
He is a 1960 graduate from Parkersburg High School and continued his education at Parkersburg Community College. He honorably served in the US Navy from 1961-1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the U.S.S. Newport News obtaining the highest security clearance. He remained in the reserves until 1967. He later retired from Johns Manville after 22 years of service, and was an active member of the 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church in Parkersburg. He enjoyed following his grandchildren and their activities, listening to gospel music, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
Sonny is survived by his daughter, Yvette Johnson (Eddy) of Parkersburg; a son, Thomas Leasure (Lisa) of Belpre; three grandchildren, Tyler Leasure (Lola) of Caguas, Puerto Rico, Ryan Leasure (Melinda) of Mineral Wells, and Danielle Johnson of Parkersburg; and a special niece, Missy Hoover.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley Jean Goodnight Leasure; a brother, Gary Leasure; an aunt who was like a sister, Barbara Oman; and a cousin who was like a brother, David Hornbeck.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the 14th Ave Gospel Mission Church with his son Thomas Leasure officiating with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Family will accept friends and loved ones from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, and one hour prior to service at the church.
