Samuel Kernaghan, 90 of Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Irvington, NJ, passed away Jan. 31, 2012 at The Arbors of Marietta.He was born May 13, 1921 in Belfast, Ireland a son of the late Samuel and Mary McMillen Kernaghan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Peerless Tube in Bloomfield, NJ in 1988 having worked as an electrician. Samuel was a Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of the State of New Jersey, Grand High Priest of Grand Royal Arch of the State of New Jersey, a member of the Shrine of New Jersey, and held numerous other offices in the Masonic organization as well as other fraternal affiliations. He attended First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church in Newark, NJ.He is survived by four daughters, JoAnn Griswold (Bill) and Sandra Kernaghan all of Parkersburg, W.Va., Susan Enginger (Emil) of Milford, PA, and Alicea Romano (John) of East Windsor, NJ; three sons, David Kernaghan (Memie) of Philippin Island, Terry Kernaghan (Rina) of Ewa Beach, HI, and Stephen Kernaghan (Deborah) of Hubert, NC; two sisters, Ellen Kernaghan of San Francisco, CA, and Mae Osborne (Robert) of Ft. Myers, FL; a brother, Jack Kernaghan (Phyllis) of West Orange, NJ; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Claire Mae Schwartzman Kernaghan; and a brother, Andrew Kernaghan.There will be no services, cremation arrangements have entrusted to Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va.Family requests no flowers, you may contact the family at 304/422-0667.Memorial donations may be made in Samuel's memory to The American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
