Robert Elwood Erwin, 85, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away December 24, 2011, at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. He was born November 13. 1926, in Lewisburg, W.Va., the son of the late Joseph Richard and Lessie Wood Erwin. Bob was a graduate of Lewisburg High School, attended Greenbrier Military Academy, and was a graduate of Marietta College. While at Marietta College, he played on the Varsity Basketball Team and was Captain of the 1949-1950 basketball team. He retired from B.F. Goodrich of Marietta, Ohio, after 36 years of service. Upon retirement, he was employed with the R.J.F. International Corp. of Marietta, Ohio. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1945-1947 and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952, during the Korean Conflict. Robert enjoyed following all sports, playing golf, and most of all, rooting for the WVU Mountaineers. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Robert was a former member of the Vienna Baptist Church and currently is a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, W.Va. where he sang in the Chancel Choir. He was also a member of the Searchers Sunday school class, and served on various committees. Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Wells Erwin; two sons, David Jeffrey Erwin of Alton, Illinois, and Richard Wells Erwin and his wife, Silvina of Tyrone, Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Paul Steven Wells and Donald Ewing both of Vienna, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Joelle Liliana Erwin and Eden Lucia Erwin, both of Tyrone, Georgia; two nieces, Rebecca Rich of Columbus, Ohio, and Kimberly Lantz of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one nephew, Richard Ewing of Buckhannon, W.Va.; and several cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Erwin Burger and Patricia Erwin Ewing; and two nieces, Beverly Burger and Melissa Burger Wiseman. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brent Sturm officiating and assisted by the Rev. Kevin Lantz. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. and one hour prior to services in the church parlor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
