Richard J. Oliver, known as “Pappy,” was born June 26, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA and passed away at the age of 67-years-old on August 28, 2014 at the Camden Clark Medical Center after an extended illness.He was the second son of Robert and Martha Oliver. He graduated from Schenley High School and attended college at WVU-P for two years. He was employed by James Matthews Company in his hometown before his Army tour of duty during the Vietnam War. Upon his return he moved to Parkersburg, W.Va. Richard was employed as a senior lab technician at Borg Warner/GE before retiring after 30 years. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 104, and throughout his 43 years of membership he served lengthy terms as Commander, Finance Officer and Post Manager.He is survived and will be terribly missed by his loving wife, Toni of 44 years; one son, Richard Kirk (and Simone) of New York; one daughter, Tonia Renee of Parkersburg; four grandchildren: A'Maiya, Raelynn, Hakim and Bryce; brothers: Dehn (and Roseann) Oliver of Pittsburgh, Jerry Butcher, Rodney Caves, and Kenneth Oliver; sisters: Laraine (and Ron) Coleman of Pittsburgh, Lorena Caves, Barbara Payne, Lubertha Oliver, Kimberly Oliver, Carolyn Oliver, Victoria Deakins, and Cassandra Oliver; beloved niece, Marla (and Chris) Wilson of Pittsburgh; brother-in-law, John C. Browne of San Diego; one surrogate brother-in-law, K. Michael (and Judy) Tibbs of Parkersburg, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one older brother, Robert Jr., and one younger sister, Sandra.Visitation will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, located at 400 Green Street Parkersburg, W.Va. with services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.Immediately following the interment at Spring Grove Cemetery, dinner will be served to family and friends at the Sumner school on Avery Street.
