Reed R. Robey

Reed R. Robey, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on March 16, 2013, in Richmond, Va.Reed was born in Akron, Ohio, and was the son of the late Edna M. Dunn and Reed R. Robey.He attended local schools, Mountain State College, and proudly served in the Navy during World War II in the Central Pacific. In 1985, he retired from E. I. DuPont after 40 years of service. Reed was a member and Lodge Officer of the Masonic Lodge No. 169 AF & AM. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner of the Nemesis Temple Motor Corps, the Ben Bey Grotto and the Vice President of the Masonic Fraternities Inc.Reed was active in the Parkersburg Bowling Association, and served as a past President and Director of the Parkersburg Bowling Association. He was inducted into the West Virginia State Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2003. As an advocate for youth baseball in the Parkersburg area, Reed was a key player in organizing the Parkersburg Little League Baseball program in 1948, and continued to serve as its leader for the next three decades.In Parkersburg, Reed was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #15, Elks Club, and Moose Lodge 1118.Surviving Reed is his wife, Mildred M. Robey; son, Randall Robey and his wife, Helen, of Charlottesville, Va.; and two daughters, Marsha Ann Leep and her husband, Mark, of Richmond,Va. and Bridgette Ann Crable, also of Richmond. Reed and Midge have six grandchildren, Natalie Crable Roush, Benjamin Reed Robey, Candice Crable Summerford, Sarah Elizabeth Robey, Parker Franklin Leep and Clayton Allen Leep. In addition, he was the proud great-grandfather of Laynie Ann Summerford and Tristan Crable Roush. Reed is also survived by his sister, Patricia Miller and her husband, Ross, of Rocklin, Calif.; along with several nieces and nephews.The Robey children would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to those who provided encouragement, loving care and true friendship to our father for the past three years. He was so fortunate to have such good people around him wherever he resided. Our dad considered you to be true friends, as do we. Our family will be forever grateful to his friends in Unit One at the Beth Sholom Home, and everyone working with the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at McGuire Veteran's Hospital in Richmond, Va., especially those in 1U. Too many to name, but please know we deeply appreciate everything you have done for our father and we will forever be grateful for your love, care and friendship.The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 and 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Private graveside services will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
