Ralph Edward “Blackie” Bowersock, 93, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away September 16, 2013 at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.He was born August 5, 1920, in Rockport, W.Va., a son of the late Leonard Wilson and Ruby Isabelle Cox Bowersock.Ralph was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the 879th Guard Squadron at Rookley Field, Mobile, Ala. as a military policeman. He later served overseas as cook in the Marshall Island, Ryukus and other Islands in the Western Pacific and was a life-time member of the VFW Post 1212 Parkersburg. He retired from Century Block and was a State Road Inspector. He loved to hunt especially coon, fox and deer. He enjoyed fellowshipping with his “Coffee Gang” that met at McDonald's, and spending time with his grandkids.He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delma Jones Bowersock; three children, Ronald Gene Bowersock (Mary) of Northport, Fla., Barbara Ann McClung (Jim) and Cinda Kay Smith (David), both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Mike Bowersock of Garden City, Mich., Scott Bowersock of Dearborn Heights, Mich., Rick McClung of Parkersburg, W.Va., Angie McClung of Davisville, W.Va., Carrie Schweikart (Mike) of Falls Church, Va. and Melinda Haddox (Bill) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; seven great-grandchildren, Sasha Lewis, Jimmy Ruble, Jessica Lyons, Ava Rose Schweikart, Cole Warren Schweikart, Owen Michael Schweikart and Corrah Haddox; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his one brother, Varner Bowersock; two sisters, Berneda Armour and Virginia Fleming; one half-sister, Glenna Deem; one half-brother, Emmet Bowersock; and a great-grandson, Garrett Ruble.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Donald Beeson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery with full military rites by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
