R. Strock

Columbia R. “Cubby” Strock, 98, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died at her home Oct. 11, 2011. She was a retired office manager and bookkeeper and was the widow of Rev. John H. Strock. She was a native of Fairmont, W.Va., and a 1932 graduate of Fairmont High School. She was the daughter of Mary Frances Clemens and John P. Rosetta. In 1935 she married H. Sutton Sharp, editor of the Parkersburg Sentinel and former managing editor of The Fairmont Times, who died in 1974. She was married to Rev. Strock from 1985 until his death in 2006. Mrs. Strock was office manager of the Textile Workers Union of America, Local #9, in Parkersburg, where she worked for 17 years. She was church administrator of First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg when she retired in 1983. She was the former accountant for the Henry Logan Children's Home where she later served as treasurer of the Board of Directors. She had also worked for Mountwood Park and the Parkersburg Chamber of Commerce. Early in her career, she was secretary to the business manager of the Fairmont Newspaper Publishing Company in Fairmont. She served as an elder in First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg, and was a former member of Parkersburg Community Council, Zonta International career and businesswomen's service organization, and the advisory committee of the Secretarial Science Program at Parkersburg Community College. She was a member of the Worthington Women's Golf Association. Mrs. Strock leaves a daughter, Mary-Margaret Sharp Patterson, and her husband David, of Chevy Chase, MD, and a grandson, Scott Sutton Patterson, his wife Alix, and two great-grandsons, Emmett Sands and Tucker Webb Patterson all of Washington, D.C. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Smith, Wanda “Bonnie” Grable, and Teresa R. Parks. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at the church an hour before the service. Private interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont, W.Va. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Founders Trust of First Presbyterian Church, 1341 Juliana St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
