Sweet, 94, of Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Wilmore, Kentucky and originally of Marlette, Michigan, passed away October 15, 2012 at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus, following a brief illness.She was born December 23, 1917 in North Branch, Michigan, a daughter of the late Bruce Floyd and Mary Winigene Martin Clothier. She was a longtime teacher in the Marlette, Michigan and in the Woodford County High School, Versailles, Kentucky public school systems. She previously taught English, Home Economics, and Physical Education. She held such a calling for education that she left lasting impressions on those she taught over the years in her career. She was a member of The Retired Teachers Association. Phyllis especially loved gardening and always had a “green thumb” for indoor and outdoor gardening. She had been a member of the Marlette UMC in Michigan, the Wilmore UMC in Kentucky and most recently, Calvary Memorial Church of Parkersburg. She is survived by her loving family, which include her daughter; Mary Hammond of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sons, Lynn Sweet of Lexington, KY and Allan Sweet (Martha) of Versailles, KY; two sisters, Marilyn Hutchinson of Michigan and Ellen Bohnsack of Virginia; one brother, Norman Clothier of Michigan; three grandchildren, Abby Sweet of Louisville, KY, Kyle Sweet of Georgetown, KY, and Becci Nestor (Andy) of Vienna, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Devin Hoehn and Drew Nestor, both also of Vienna, W.Va.; five nephews; and ten nieces.In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William Melford Sweet, in Oct. 1997; one sister, Marjorie Erb; and one brother, Martin Clothier.Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Rob Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
