November 17, 1930 — December 14, 2024

Justine (Josie) Lee Brookover of Parkersburg, WV passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the golden age of 94. She was born November 17, 1930 in Parkersburg, WV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Addie Smith; her husband, Donald Ray Brookover; son, Robert Ray Brookover; sister, Ruth Moore and great grandson, Alex Hornbeck.

Josie is survived by her two children, Beverly Matheny and Berny Brookover (Linda); grandchildren, Angela Hamrick (Will), Christy Hawkins, Stephens Hawkins (Tonya), Angie Hornbeck (Charlie), Amanda Hazen; great-grandchildren, Chance and Elaina Hamrick, Kane Rogers, Lee and Niki Hornbeck and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Parkersburg High School. While at PHS she took Co-op Classes. She would get together for years with the girls from the Co-op. Sadly just one is left, Elanor Cox.

While working for Goldsmit-Black, she was introduced by a road salesman to the love of her life, Donald Ray Brookover, where he was operating a Gulf Gas Station. They were married at Red Hill Methodist Church on September 26, 1951. During her life time she attended Lauchport and Cedar Grove Methodist Church.

She was involved in crafts, making over 20 quilts, the U-Plant-It Greenhouse and later baking cakes for birthdays, retirements and weddings. She would make over 2000 cookies to give away at Christmas. She was a hard worker at everything she did. She loved doing large Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.

She requested no flowers but donations made to the Salvation Army Shelter, House to Home and the Humane Society in Parkersburg in her name.

We want to thank the staff at Cedar Grove Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice for the loving care that she received.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg. The family has requested her casket to remain closed at the cemetery.

Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St, south Parkersburg is honored to serve the Brookover family.
