John McGowan, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on October 4, 2013 at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.He was born February 11, 1932, in Wayne County, N.C., a son of the late Aaron and Winnie Cottle McGowan.John was a retired military, a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean War and the Air Force in the Vietnam War and a retired postal worker.He loved fishing, traveling and watching the Green Bay Packers play.He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Penny” McGowan; two daughters, Johnna (Wayne) Cooper of Parkersburg and Robyn (Louis) Villanueva of Milton, Wash.; one son, Russel McGowan of Federal Way, Wash.; two step-sons, Adam (Sue) Munday of and Patrick Munday, both of Kankakee, Ill.; one step-daughter, Erin Munday of Summerfield, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie; one daughter, Elaina Ford; and one granddaughter, Myiah McGowan.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Tom Stevens officiating with full military rites by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg.Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005.
