Rev. John Henry Gibson, 92, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011.He was born April 4, 1919, in MacFarland, W.Va., a son of the late Luke A. and Katie Shuck Gibson.John was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and an ordained minister with the United Methodist Church. Some of his pastorates included churches in Ritchie County, W.Va., Doddridge County, W.Va. and Reedsville, Ohio. He loved to hold tent revivals wherever he could pitch a tent and eventually built a non-denominational church “Calvary Temple” in Pettyville, WV. He was also a machinist by trade and worked at the Dravo Corporation in Marietta, Ohio for a number of years as well as in Wheeling, W.Va.He is survived by three daughters, Patricia E. Sams of Davisville, W.Va., Sue A. Douglas (John) of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Kathleen D. Edman (Jeff) of Vienna, W.Va.; two sons, John C. Gibson (Karen) of Belpre, Ohio and Lewis L. Gibson (Eilene) of Ravenna, Ohio; one brother, William Jennings “Pete” Gibson of Belpre, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Ardonia, Elizabeth, and Reeder Sams, Jonathan Douglas, Micaela and Isaac Edman, Joshua, Luke, Whitney, Lewis Jr., and Nathan Gibson; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Vandale Gibson to whom he was married for 58 years, from June 10, 1939 until she passed away November 28, 1997; his second wife, Rosemary Kinney Gibson to whom he was married August 22, 1998 until she passed away on September 22, 2008; three brothers, Harold E. Gibson, Lewis D. Gibson and one infant brother; and one daughter, Linda Goodin.Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at the River Valley Community Church of the Nazarene, 1412 27th St., Vienna, WV26105 with Pastor John and Sue Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg.Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
