John Thomas Alfred, 78, of Belpre, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.He was born January 11, 1936 in Covington, Virginia, a son of the late Francis Worsham Wheeler and Nathan C. Alfred.John was a retired electrician with IBEW local 551. He enjoyed golfing and camping with Pioneers Sams.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy E. Alfred; two daughters, Mashellda Gibbs of Marietta, Ohio and Robin Hoschar (Earnie) of Veto, Ohio; a son, John T. Alfred Jr. (Kathie) of Barlow, Ohio; one sister, Carolyn Sue Lipes of Roanoke, Virginia; six grandchildren, Renee Harvey, Jason Gibbs, Brandon Gibbs, Lindsey Wilson, Kelsey Cline, and Cody Alfred; and seven great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Alfred, and a son-in-law, Mike Gibbs.A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Blvd. Belpre, Ohio. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the memorial service.For those wishing to make an expression of sympathy, memorial stones or other permanent tributes are encouraged.
