James Rutherford Lett

James R. Lett, 79, of MIneral Wells, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2014 at his residence.He was born November 2, 1934, in Cedar Grove, W.Va., a son of the late Rutherford and Virginia Hudnall Lett. He was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hudnall of Reed, W.Va.James was a 1954 graduate from DuPont High School in Belle, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he played baseball for the Army League. He later moved to Parkersburg in 1966. He retired from E.I. DuPont in 1995 working at both the Belle plant and the Washington Works plant. He was a Public Service Commissioner for Mineral Wells PSD. He was a 35 year member of Grace Gospel Church and had served as a trustee.He was head coach for the Golden Hawks Pee Wee League where he won 12 championships. He was instrumental in starting Godbey Field and held office of treasurer when the field was paid off, served on the Board of Directors for several years. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball at Godbey Field for many years and was an avid fan of Mountaineer Football.He is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Fordyce Lett of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Janella Gault (Neal) of Lubeck, W.Va.; two special daughters, Missy Goodwin Jarvis and Anita Riffle Miller; one brother, Jackie Banks (Resa) of Alum Creek, W.Va.; one sister, Janey Banks also of Alum Creek; four grandchildren, Sasha Nicole Fordyce, Travis Anthony Fordyce, Derek James Gault and Shayla Raquel Gault; and great grandchildren, Vincent Marshall, Jayse James Anderson, Aubrey Crislip and expecting Noah Anthony James Fordyce in two weeks.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Loretta Rodgers Lett in 2009; one brother, Richard Lett from Anchorage, Alaska; one aunt that was like a sister, Katherine Brown; and one uncle that was like a brother, Robert Hudnall.Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Roger Benson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
