Hayward Gene Knopp

H. Gene Knopp, 73, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away October 3, 2014 after a long illness. He was born on November 4, 1940 in Roane County, W.Va to the late Richard G. and Laurada (Parsons) Knopp. A 1959 graduate of Parkersburg High School, he was a machinist by trade. He worked at O Ames Plant 1 and retired in 2000 from Pechney Aluminum Products in Ravenswood. He enjoyed going to auctions and car shows, going turkey hunting, and was a talented gun smith.He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cherie Lee Morrison Knopp; twin daughters Christy Knopp (Joe Duke) of Hamilton, OH and Angela Knopp Landers (John Cheslak) of Kennesaw, GA; brothers Gary Knopp (Jackie) of Vienna W.Va.; Leon Knopp (Judy) of Mineral Wells W.Va; Terry Knopp and Danny Knopp (Judy) of Parkersburg W.Va.; a sister Paula Righter (Jim) of Parkersburg and a sister-in-law Val Knopp of Mineral Wells W.Va.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Lionel Knopp.His wife and children wish to thank the many family and friends who helped fill Gene's last years with joy. A very special thank you to Mike Elam and his staff at Cedar Grove Assisted Living for the care and love shown to Gene during his last months. It was Gene's wish that there not be a traditional funeral service, but instead that his memory be honored with a Celebration of Life luncheon, which will be held in November. Memorials may be directed to the giver's charity of choice. Lambert-Tatman Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
