Harry Maywood Adkins, 84, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away on April 25, 2011 at CCMH.Born July 20, 1926, in Sutton, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Sherman and Leoda Barr Adkins.Harry retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1981 and was an Army veteran of WW II.He enjoyed woodworking, doing craft shows and carpentry.He was a member of the Fort Neal Kiwanis and assisted with other charitable organizations.He was a Christian by faith.He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Laura Jean Edman Adkins; two sons, John Olen (Connie) Adkins and Robert Harry (Brenda) Adkins, both of Williamstown, W.Va.; five daughters, Judy (John) Staats of Summersville, W.Va., Carol Sue and Charlotte, both of Parkersburg,W.Va., Mary (Dave) Sheppard of Mineral Wells, W.Va., Betty Pullin of Charleston, W.Va., Jane (Roger) Reynolds of Vienna, W.Va.; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Jean Bush; and grandsons, Richie and Robert Harry Adkins II.Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Joe Busch officiating.Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.The family requests that memorial donations be made to South Parkersburg Baptist Church Building Fund, 1655 Blizzard Dr., Parkersburg, WV26101.
