Glen Junior Coe

Glen Junior Coe passed away peacefully on November 12, 2020. The son of Fannie Mardulia and Harley Mathew Coe, Glen was born in Palestine, West Virginia. His siblings were brothers Bennie, Chester and Harding together with his sister Orma Brookover who all predeceased him. He graduated from Wirt County High School where he lettered in football and basketball. He attended school in Elizabeth but lived 7 miles away in Palestine. He was so committed to playing sports at his school that he often had to walk those 7 miles home after sports practices. He was such an outstanding football player that West Virginia University awarded him a scholarship to play football for them. He decided to decline their offer, putting family first to stay at home and assist his father in working the family farm. He met his wife, Madeline Boston, when she was his teacher in high school. They married and moved to Vienna, West Virginia where she continued teaching and he took a job with Johns-Manville. Glen worked for over 50 years with the Johns-Manville Corporation, working his way up from an entry level assembly position to a supervisory management job in the lab. He had a deep love for the outdoors, often hunting and fishing in various parts of the country. His fishing trips to Alaska and Canada were legendary. He was extremely proud of the hunting trip he took with his son in law to Africa. While there in Namibia, he successfully hunted a trophy zebra. He loved to travel with his family and grandchildren, often taking them on cross country adventures or cruising in the Caribbean. Traveling with him was never boring because he always found time to tell everyone jokes or play pranks on the children to make the time pass quickly. A strong conservative, Glen was raised with a deep sense of service to family and community. He was a proud member of the Shriners and worked hard to achieve the status of 32nd degree Mason. He loved the friends he made through these organizations and was extremely proud of the charity work they did for children in the community. A true patriot, Glen was a strong supporter of Donald Trump and loved reminiscing about the time spent years ago with Mr. Trump negotiating union contracts. He loved wearing his Make America Great Again hat and was proud to always fly his American flag on the front of his home. Although Glen’s health deteriorated over the past several years, it took a sharp decline immediately after the election. He was so committed to President Trump and continuing his good work, it was apparent that Glen Coe just didn’t want to live in a world where Joe Biden was going to be President. Glen was a strong Christian, always believing in telling the truth, loving your community and taking care of your family. He and his wife spent many years worshiping at North Parkersburg Baptist Church and were charter members of New Hope Baptist Church in Vienna. His humility and selflessness were legendary. He was proud of his humble beginnings and was always willing to share his time and treasures with those less fortunate. Although we are saddened by his absence here on earth, we take great comfort in knowing he is thriving in his eternal home, his body fully restored, playing football once again. Glen was predeceased by his wife of over 65 years, Madeline Coe. He leaves behind his daughter, Sharrel, and her husband Dr. Frank A. McGrew III of Memphis; one grandson, Frank IV, and his wife, Neely McGrew of Nashville; granddaughters Anne and her husband, Kemp Conrad; and Lindsey and her husband Josh Hammond, both of Memphis. Additionally, he leaves six great grandchildren: Madeline and Virginia McGrew of Nashville, Kemp and Coco Conrad; and Sophia and Buster Hammond, all of Memphis. The family is most appreciative of Linda Talbott for the many years of selfless service and friendship that Linda showed to both Glen and Madeline. She truly exhibited the hands and feet of Christ here on earth and we are forever grateful for her service. Due to the present situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the family chose to have a private burial with Shriners rites. We will have a larger celebration of life and memorial celebrating Glen later in 2021 when we can all gather safely. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Coe family.
