Gerald L. Shrewsbury

Gerald L. Shrewsbury, 89, of Vienna, W.Va., died October 14, 2011 at Worthington Manor Nursing Facility.He was born June 26, 1922, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Estelle and Harold Shrewsbury.He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Betty; two daughters, Anne Poarch of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jane Burkey of Raleigh, NC; one son, David Shrewsbury of North Hills, Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Ann Webb of Parkersburg, W.Va.Gerald served four years in the US Marine Corps during WWII and received the Purple Heart with a Gold Star. He was a life member of Mt. Olivet Lodge #3 A.F. & A.M. in Parkersburg, W.Va. and had retired from the former Borg-Warner Chemicals in 1982. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Shackelford; and one brother, Donald Shrewsbury.Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. There will be no visitation.
