George William Phillips, 81, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away Sept. 21, 2013, at Worthington Nursing Facility.He was born July 10, 1932, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a son of the late Lyle and Mary Louise Phillips.George was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, had worked at several grocery stores as a bakery/deli specialist, and was retired from Fleming Grocery Store, Massillon, Ohio. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf and watching NASCAR races and football games on TV. He was a Methodist by faith.Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Ruby J. Robinson Phillips; two daughters, Tina L. Phillips (Beth) and Sabrina Tarr (John), all of Wheeling, W.Va.; one brother, Jim Phillips (Millie) of Sistersville, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Alexandria Tarr; and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. with Pastor Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association WV Chapter, 1218 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101, in memory of George.
