Garnet E. Stevens

Garnet Eloise Stevens, 92, formerly of Belpre, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.She was born July 26, 1920 at Belpre, Ohio, a daughter of the late Hartford and Delsie (Mayle) Mayle.Garnet was a 1938 graduate of Barlow Rural High School, Vincent, Ohio and worked as a nursing assistant at Columbus State Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.Upon her return to Belpre, she worked as a private duty caregiver in the Parkersburg area.She was a member of Whitman Chapel AME Church in Belpre.She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Portis, of Tampa, Fla. And Michelle Day and her husband, James, of Olney, Maryland; one son, Timothy Stevens and his wife, Angela, of Marietta, Ohio; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Stevens; two sons, Joseph and Michael Barnett; four sisters; and one brother.Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio with the Rev. Deborah Marshall officiating.Services will conclude with burial at Rockland Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the services.
