Frederick Arthur “Fred” Cross, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Oct. 4, 2013, at his residence.He was born June 24, 1942, the son of the late Clarence Frederick Cross and Josephine (Linger) Cross.Fred was a U.S. Army veteran having served seven years in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was a retired truck driver, having driven for various trucking companies including Georgia Pacific Belts Transfer. Fred was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Deerwalk Veterans Association Chapter One, and the DAV. He was a member of House of Faith Church, Hepzibah, W.Va. He enjoyed farming, mechanic work and doing various building construction projects.Fred is survived by his wife of 23 years, Nancy L. Cross; children, Bobby Wayne Gent (Betty), Frederick A. Cross II (Brenda), Eva Virginia Ellyson (Ed), Sherry Lynn Exline (Chuck), Lisa Jo Roberts (Gary), Perry Monroe Knotts (Bessie), Denny Joseph Knotts (Darlene) and John Richard Holden Jr.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Cross of Parkersburg and Emma Cross (Hanshaw) of Hundred, W.Va.; his K9 companions, Brett, Joey, Scarlet, Kattie, Toto, Tiffany and Brittney; and his close friends, Carl Hendershot I, Carl Hendershot II and Rick Willis.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Pearl Cross (Mackey); his brother, Charles William Cross Sr.; and one grandchild, infant Knotts.Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Deloris White officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites by the West Virginia Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. ro 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their love and support.
