Beckett, 87, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away on July 16, 2012 at the Parkersburg Care and Rehabilitation Center.He was born September 24, 1924, in Braxton Co., W.Va., a son of the late Orpha and Stella Perkins Beckett.Eugene was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired as a crane operator from Union Carbide. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, participated in tournaments at the City Park and had his own horseshoe pits in his backyard.He formerly played softball for Union Carbide, was an avid hunter and a member of the Edgelawn United Methodist Church and a member of the Gospel Lights Quartet.He is survived by four daughters, Barbara E. Hunt (Ted Deming) of Rockport, W.Va., Sandra L. Carson (Dale) of Mineral Wells, W.Va., Vida R. Sprouse (William Jr.) of Lubeck, W.Va., and Lorrie D. Conrad (Bill) of Newark, W.Va.; one step-daughter, Carolyn Morris of Wilmington, N.C.; one step-son, Gary Wood (Joyce) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Wilda Sheppard of Newark, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Gene Eaton, Rick Eaton, Chris Carson, Ken Carson, Davy Knight, Bill Sprouse III, and Tifiny Valenzuela; five step-grandchildren, Kim Walters, Natalie Barnette, Mike Wood, Missy Morris and Ryan Morris; several great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Stephens Beckett; his second wife, Mary Mae Wood Beckett; one son, Rondell Beckett; four sisters; and two brothers.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with his grandson, Pastor Rick Eaton officiating. Military rites will be :00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. The family would like to express their thanks to Parkersburg Care and Rehab, Amedisys Hospice, and family and friends for the love and care.
