Ethel May Reed Springston Chaffin, 91 of Waverly, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at her residence.She was born November 4, 1920 in Gilmer County, W.Va., a daughter of the late James and Mary Springston Reed. Ethel was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, crocheting lap robes to give to area nursing homes. She was a Christian by faith.She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Smith of Waverly, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Robert Smith Jr. and Anna Smith both of Waverly, W.Va.; one step-daughter, Judy Tebay of Parkersburg, W.va.; three step-sons, Mike, Roger, and Randy Chaffin all of Parkersburg; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Chaffin; her son, Richard Paul Springston; two step-sons, Kenny and Gary Chaffin; four sisters; and five brothers.Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Dr. William Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Three Poplar Cemetery, Grantsville, W.Va. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.The family requests that donations may be made to the Amedisys Hospice, 417 Grand Park Dr., suite 206, Parkersburg, WV. 26105.
