Denzil Willard Miles

Denzil W. Miles, 86, of Vienna, W.Va., passed away August 14, 2011, at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. He was born November 11, 1924, in Ripley, W.Va., a son of the late Reverend T.L. and Carrie Emerick Miles. Denzil was a former graduate of Parkersburg High School and had been a longtime employee of the former Universal Glass. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed playing pool at the Wood County Senior Citizens Association. He was a US Army veteran, having served as a paratrooper. He also received the U.S. Military Purple Heart Medal for his service, including a tour during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. Surviving is his loving wife, Jean E. Fisher Miles; daughter, Nancy Lorena Sims (Larry) of Aiken, SC; son, Gregory L. Miles (Elaine) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; step-children, John Floyd (Helen) of Garden City, SC, William Floyd (Jane) of Phillipi, W.Va., David Floyd (Diane) of Fairmont, W.Va., and Diana Flanagan (Robert) of Columbia, SC; sister, Mary Lou Goodwin of Parkersburg, W.Va.; brother, Denver Miles (Betty) of Florida; grandchildren, Gregory II and Chad Miles, Natosha Friend (Pat), Britney Forshey (Tad), and Stacy and Megan Sims; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Owen Friend, and Colson and Branson Forshey; several step-grandchildren; and a host of step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Melba Jean Miles on April 21, 1996. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, W.Va. with the Rev. Norman Butler and the Rev. Danny McVey officiating. Interment will follow at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
