Danny Ward Favreau

Danny Ward Favreau, 79, of Williamstown, WV, formerly McConnelsville, Ohio, passed away

Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Marietta Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.

Dan was born July 1, 1945, in Fairmont, a son of the late Henry L. Favreau and Ramona A.

Ward. Dan was a graduate of Williamstown High School and West Virginia University.

Following undergraduate studies, he was drafted and thus joined the US Marine Corps. He

served a tour in Vietnam and reached the rank of First Lieutenant. Upon completion of his

military obligation, he graduated from Capital University Law School.

Dan enjoyed a youth spent doing farm work and hunting in the hills near his home in Waverly.

An avid Boy Scout, he spoke fondly of his role as a counselor and marksmanship instructor at

Camp Kootaga. To finance his education, he was a union laborer and worked on the

construction of interstate roads in West Virginia and Ohio. Dan assisted his stepfather and

mother in the founding of IVS-Hydro in Waverly and labored evenings and weekends for many

years to help make that business viable.

Following completion of his education, Dan had a private law practice in McConnelsville, Ohio.

He was town solicitor for McConnelsville, Malta, Chesterhill and Belle Valley as well as an

assistant prosecutor for Morgan County. Ultimately, Dan served as Judge of the Morgan

County Court of Common Pleas, General, Domestic Relations, Probate and Juvenile divisions

for thirty years, retiring in 2021. Upon his retirement from the bench, the Juvenile courtroom in

the Morgan County Courthouse was named the “Favreau Room” in his honor.

Dan was a Master Mason at Williamstown Lodge No 129, a member of the VFW and the

American Legion. He volunteered his time for many years on the selection panel for US service

academies, prepared the legal documentation necessary to qualify Morgan County for the Hawk

Missile Site and spent significant hours related to the construction of the McConnelsville Pool,

providing maintenance once operational. For many years, Dan spent much time each summer

working at Buckeye Boys’ State leading the “courts” division, eventually acting as President of

the program. He was named to the Buckeye Boys’ State Hall of Fame.

Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Willia Bethe Ingraham Favreau. He’s also survived by

his children, Megan Edwards (Rich) of Arlington, Virginia and Ryan Favreau (Kaci) of Winston-

Salem, NC. His much-loved grandchildren include Lauren, Mia and Will Edwards and Kalin and

Cohen Favreau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Leanora G. Favreau, his

stepfather, Kenneth R. Davis, and a very special “Granddad” who helped raise him, Charles

Edward Ward.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 6,

2025 at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown.  Reverand Elizabeth Campbell-Maleke of First

Presbyterian Church of Williamstown will officiate. The Morgan County Ohio Courthouse flags

will be flown at half mast from January 29 th through 31 st to honor Dan’s thirty years of service to

the Court.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Buckeye

Boys’ State or the military affiliated charity of your choice. Dan was always a proud Marine.
