Claude L. CalesClaude L. Cales, 82, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on March 19, 2011 at Worthington Manor after an 11 year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).He was born August 27, 1928, in Green Sulphur Springs, W.Va., a son of the late Clarence M. and Edna M. Clay Cales.Claude was a graduate of Sandstone High School and Bluefield Business College.He was a 46 year employee of Greyhound Lines as an agent in Charleston, Bluefield and Parkersburg, West Virginia.He was an avid hunter and gardener.He enjoyed working in his yard and raising flowers.As his health declined he enjoyed watching TV and reading. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons, Gerald (Lynda) Cales of Redondo Beach, Calif. and David (Sue) Cales of South Charleston, W.Va.; his daughter, Sara Kathryn (Randy) Spencer of Hurricane, W.Va; grandchildren, Justin Spencer of Louisville, Ky., Christopher (Erin) Spencer of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Lisa Cales of Midland, Tex.; great-grandchildren, Sydney Weinzel of Fort Drum, N.Y. and Chloe Spencer of Wadsworth, Ohio; sisters, Beulah Pennington of Lerona, W.Va. and June Willey, of Hinton, W.Va.; brother, Dr. Darrell K. Cales (Marilyn McGuire) of Rainelle, W.Va.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gorden Jene Cales.A special thank you to Claude's caregivers, Connie, Jennifer, Gloria and Tracey.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
