Gene Carroll Singleton, 87, loving husband and father, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at his residence with his family at his side.He was born September 2, 1925, in Mannington, W.Va., a son of the late Horace and Grace Innskep Singleton.He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan with the Class of 1947 and was a United State Navy Veteran. He was also instrumental in the construction of what was later known as the Neal Island Marina. He, along with Harry Pettigrew, operated a refrigeration company in the early 1960's. Gene worked in local industry and retired from AGA Air Products. After his retirement, he became interested in woodworking and produced more writing pens than his family could use. He was a hard working man all his life and was devoted to his family.Gene spent many hours boating on the Ohio River, enjoying skiing, scuba diving and picnics on Blennerhassett Island. He had a special group of friends he went hunting with every Thanksgiving since he was the one who had to cook the turkey.He was a proud Mason and a member of Parkersburg Lodge #169 A.F. & A.M. Gene was a lifetime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and also belonged to the American Legion Post #15 and the Amvets.Gene is survived by his wife, Ramona Joseph Singleton; his daughter, Monica Singleton of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a special nephew, Butch Joseph of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a brother, Dr. Robert Singleton of Charleston, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.At Gene's request, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. A mass to celebrate his life will be planned at a later date at St. Francis Xavier Church.
