Carol Ann Ball, 65 of Parkersburg, W.Va.passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 peacefully at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.Carol was born January 19, 1948 in Charleston, W.Va. and was preceded in death by her parents John W. and Pearl V. Fitzpatrick.Carol is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stephen E. (Ed) Ball; daughters, Kathleen Elizabeth (Joe) Hinkley, Mikki (Mike) Bosley, and Kristin Lee (Chad) Holliday, all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; brother, Russell R. (Donis) Fitzpatrick of Orange, Texas; grandchildren, Stephen and Danielle (Brad Smith) Scohy, Justin and Megan Bosley, and Brandon and Dylan Holliday; great-grandson, Connor Smith; and several nieces and nephews.She was a 1965 graduate of South Charleston High School and a 1969 graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor's in Physical Education. At WVU she met her future husband, Ed. Carol was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, first attending Rock Lake Presbyterian in South Charleston. She has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg since moving to Parkersburg after college.Carol was so proud of her children, grandchildren and new great-grandson. She loved family get-togethers at any time but especially on holidays. She loved the beach, watching WVU sports and reading a good book. She enjoyed her volunteer work for the Red Cross and past involvement with Relay for Life. She enjoyed tending her flowers and plants, her Wednesday senior's bowling league, her weekly Tai Chi class, and going to the Fitness Center. She was very involved in the Lubeck School PTA and her daughter's Girl Scout troops. She made friends whatever she did.A special thanks to Dr. Cawley, Dr. Bhati, the entire Strecker Cancer team at Marietta Memorial Hospital and to Housecalls Hospice of Parkersburg for providing the best care possible. A special thanks also to her family and friends who shared their caring and loving support.Carol's funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburgwith Chaplain David Kaufman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive visitors 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. While flowers are appreciated, the family would like to request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to another charity of choice in memory of Carol.
