Carl “Emerson” Townsend, 87, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away May 23, 2011 at Cedar Grove Personal Care Home.He was born July 15, 1923 in Belleville, W.Va., a son of the late Clyde and Letha Bennett Townsend. Emerson was a US Army veteran of WW II. He retired from Borg-Warner after several years of service.He enjoyed wood working, traveling and fishing.He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Tucker County and being with his family.He is survived by two daughters, Terry (Donnie) Lemon of Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Linda (Lewis) Moss of Wirt County W.Va.; two sons, Gary (Wanda) Townsend and Kenneth (Ethel)Townsend, both of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two step-sons, George Creel of Minneapolis, Minn. and Mark Creel of Raleigh, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Freda George Townsend; his second wife, Mary Ann Creel Townsend; two brothers, Harold and Leo Townsend; an infant sister; and one grandson.Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Mark McCloy officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The family request contributions be made to the Erickson All Sports Facility, P.O. Box 3750, Parkersburg, WV26103.
