B. “Eleanor” (Woodyard) Townsend, 89, of Belleville, W.Va., passed away at Cedar Grove Assisted Living in Parkersburg, W.Va. on Feb. 18, 2014, after a long illness. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.She was born January 14, 1925, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Samuel M. and Sarah Ethel (Wigal) Woodyard.She was a 1942 graduate of Parkersburg High School. She worked at Cox's Department Store before marrying her best friend, Charles “Alvie” Townsend, August 2, 1942. She was a member of Hopewell Church of Christ, a 60 year member of the Farm Bureau and she belonged to the Ohio Valley Homemakers Club for many years. She was a professional cake artist of extraordinary talent.She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Bell and her husband, Robert of Belleville, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Rebekah Bell of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Rachel Townsend of Washington, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Townsend; a niece, Kathy Harrison of Parkersburg; two nephews, Joe Alt and John Wigal Jr., both of Parkersburg; and three nieces and three nephews by marriage, Mary Lou Foutty (Jim) of Parkersburg, Anna Lou Buck (Roy) and Clara McVey, both of Belleville; Edwin Townsend (Carol) of Alpharetta, Ga., Gene (Betty Jo) and Charlie (Pauline) Townsend, both of Belleville; and a sister-in-law, Glenola Woodyard.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles “Alvie” Townsend on August 27, 2003; son, Robert E. Townsend on February 12, 1996; two brothers, James F. Woodyard, 1981, and Kermit Eugene Woodyard, 2013; and one sister, Lois Eloise Schell, 1981.Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Randy Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Donations may be made to Potter Children's Home, 2350 Nashville Rd., Bowling Green, KY42101 or Cedar Grove Assisted Living, 110 Nicolette Road, Parkersburg, WV26104.
