Bernard Vincent McManus, 67, passed away on January 9, 2012, after a short hospitalization. He was born in Clarksville, Pa., the son of James Edward and Grace Anne Boyle McManus; the husband of Nancy Lee Reposky McManus; and father of Bernard Vincent McManus, II (Beezer) of Tampa, Florida and James Edward McManus (Jamie) of Washington, W.Va.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Patrick of Cleveland, Ohio. He is survived by five siblings: Eileen Muhly of Clarksville, PA, Frances Marconi and Mary Hearn Cox, both of Baltimore, MD, Joan Berwick of Elkton, MD, and William McManus of Medina, Ohio.Upon graduation from Jefferson Morgan High School, Jefferson, PA, in 1962, “Bernie” started his career with Corning Glass in Charleroi, PA, as an apprentice mold maker. During that apprenticeship, he also attended California State College, California, PA, and was promoted to Assistant Personnel Manager. In 1972, he transferred to be Personnel Manager at SpaceTec Inc. in Bedford, MA, then a subsidiary of Corning. In subsequent years, he served as Personnel Manager at the Corning Plants in Paden City and Parkersburg. After 32 years of service, he retired in 1994 as Human Resources Manager. Following seven more years as Human Resources Manager for Schott Scientific, he finally retired professionally in 2002.Civic causes were also important to Bernie. Among others, he served on the Board of Directors of the Parkersburg Country Club, the United Way, the Salvation Army, and raised funds as a VIP for the Wood County Society.Bernie was a charismatic, gregarious, fun-loving Irishman. He loved Notre Dame Football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, golf, tennis and socializing with the countless co-workers, friends and buddies he so enjoyed. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his favorite mother-in-law “Annabelle” who referred to him as her favorite son-in-law.Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 13,2012 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street,Parkersburg, W.Va. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Eric Hall officiating. A reception will follow at the Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wood County Society-Serving Children and Adults with Disabilities.
